Spain offers a unique opportunity for digital nomads—a visa that allows remote workers to legally live and work in the country for an extended period. This type of visa is ideal for those who work remotely and want to enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle.

  • Residence permit for up to three years
  • After five years, residents can apply for permanent residency.
  • After ten years, they become eligible for Spanish citizenship

It is important to note that if the applicant is already legally in Spain, he/she can apply for a residence permit immediately, bypassing the visa application stage.

What is this?

The Digital Nomad Visa in Spain is a special residence permit for foreigners who work remotely for companies or clients outside Spain.

Already in Spain? If you are legally present in Spain (on a tourist visa or another type of permit), you can apply directly for a residence permit without first obtaining a visa.

Freelancers and self-employed professionals with clients outside Spain.

How to Apply for the Digital Nomad Visa?

Option 1: Apply at a Spanish Consulate (from your home country)

Submit your application at the Spanish consulate in your country.

If approved, you receive a one-year visa. Once in Spain, you can convert it into a three-year residence permit.

Important: You must start your residence permit application within two months of arrival, or your first year won’t count toward permanent residency.

Option 2: Apply from Spain

If you’re already in Spain (on a tourist visa or another legal status), you can apply for a three-year residence permit directly.

Main requirements include: Legal stay in Spain and no criminal record in Spain or any country you’ve lived in for the past two years.

Family Reunification

The Digital Nomad visa allows you to include family members in your application, meaning your spouse and children can be granted residency in Spain with you.
